Full renovation and extension of a townhouse in Madrid

Located in El Escorial, within a residential setting overlooking the surrounding hills and the landscape of the Guadarrama Mountains, this intervention transforms an existing townhouse to meet the contemporary needs of a family of three.

The project involves the comprehensive renovation and vertical extension of the dwelling, taking advantage of the unique topography of a plot with access from two streets at different levels. The main floor, accessed from the upper street, brings together the daytime living spaces in an open and light-filled environment connected to an outdoor courtyard and a new urban-style swimming pool. The bedrooms are arranged on the lower floor, while the garage occupies the lowest level of the plot, with independent access from the street below.

The proposal seeks to enhance spatial quality and natural light while preserving existing elements such as the house’s original stonework. The combination of warm materials, natural textures and careful integration with the surroundings allows the extension to engage respectfully with the urban fabric of El Escorial and the character of the place.
