New Epiqueia School
Rural school rooted in its surroundings
Located in the municipality of Mediona, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking nearby woodlands, the New Epiqueia School is an architectural and pedagogical project deeply rooted in its rural context. The single-storey building blends seamlessly into the agricultural landscape, creating a direct connection between interior spaces and the outdoors. This integration allows school activities to extend beyond the classrooms, turning the surrounding fields and gardens into a genuine educational resource.
The organisation of the school —early years, primary and secondary— is arranged around a shared central courtyard that fosters community and interaction among students of different ages. At the same time, spaces such as the library, workshops, music room and laboratory encourage creativity and discovery, while maintaining a strong respect for nature and the rural landscape.
The architectural design emphasises simplicity and sustainability: discreet materials and volumes, a human scale, and a constant dialogue with the environment. In this way, the New Epiqueia School is not just a school — it is a place where learning happens in harmony with the land, nurturing a strong connection to the territory and an educational approach that remains open and closely linked to nature.
